In Genesis 2:18-23, we are given an account of how God created man in the Garden of Eden. He then saw that it was not good for man to be alone, so He formed all kinds of animals and took them to the man, but none could form a partner suitable.
The Fatherly heart of God is seen in His desire to provide what would make His son Adam happy, as he felt so alone. All the animals He Created and lovingly took to him did not fill the empty longing in his heart for a companion.
God then thought of a more suitable companion, one that looked like Adam and would fill the hollowness in his heart.
The Bible says, God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep. Then He took out one of Adam's ribs [interesting that God did not take two ribs, or create the woman from fresh just as He did Adam,] closed up the opening side and made a woman. Adam woke up to find some beautiful eyes staring at him. Unlike the animals his Father gave him, the new one looked more like him with curves and they could stand side by side, shoulder to shoulder, though different completed and complemented one another. This one was different, he thought and beautiful to behold.
Adam exclaimed, "At last! This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called 'Woman.'
What an exiting moment it was when Adam first led his eyes on the woman. And because she was the mother of all living, she was named Eve.
If only the events that followed did not happen, they would have lived happily ever after. But the joy was short-lived as the enemy watched from a distance, unhappy with what he saw thinking, these new comers were going to take God's attention and inherit what he had thought he could claim for himself. As he watched, bitterness filled his heart and he withdrew to consider his next move. With a grin he moved forward and targeted the weakest link. He knew if he succeeded in deceiving the woman, the man would fall easily. He prepared the trap.
Eve thinking the snake was a friendly Neighbour smiled and with that Satan's confidence grew. He dropped the first line, not wanting no for an answer, rephrased his words. She was caught in the trap. It tasted good. She took some and gave to Adam who also was deceived.
There entered all the suffering, death, sickness the consequences of rebellion. Instead of blessings, curse was pronounced. The Father's plan had been to bless his son with a wife to be happy forever.
Instead, the result was sin and the wages of sin death.
But God loved what He created. His anger was against the Enemy that caused the rebellion. So He covered their nakedness and planned a day when their Deliverer would come and redeem them from death. Thousands of years later, the Redeemer walked the streets of Jerusalem. The Enemy, Satan drummed up hatred against Him and persecuted Him. But what he did not know was that killing Him was God's plan, because in dying He would give His life to those who because of sin died and lost their relationship with God. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is everlasting life through Jesus Christ our LORD ---.Romans 6:23.
For He is the way, the Truth and the Life.[John 14:6.]
