In the Gospel of John chapter 10:10, Jesus expresses a most profound truth regarding our world: The Enemy is out to steal, kill and destroy.
Many go to church but fail to grasp the reality of the danger that humanity faces. Since creation, the world has groaned and wrestled with forces beyond human control and because we have been taught in most cases by those appointed by the 'enemy,' wolves in sheep clothing; are fed lies or half truths which cause blindness.
We are all born into sin, and as soon as we are born, fall into the hand that lead us away from God's path into the path that leads to destruction. Despite many religions and beliefs, there are only Two Paths; Good or Evil--God or Satan.
Try as we might, we never can locate the right path for ourselves because we are blinded by the system we inherited and deceived by the lies that had been erected by the Enemy of our souls since the Garden of Eden.
We soon learn to become selfish, and pride shuts our eyes to the needs of others as our educational system teaches us to rise to the highest level by pushing others off the ladder, however immoral. But we soon learn the consequences as our hearts ache for more, finding no fulfilment in what the world offers.
#Biblical lessons
Throughout the Bible, we are taken through the history of humanity, from the Garden of Eden; a world that needed redemption after being polluted by fallen angels.
An understanding of our world can only be appreciated when we see life from the wisdom of God and the teaching of John 10:10. Until then, the truth of Christmas, who Jesus is [Not who He was, as He is alive and living with and in us], will continue to be hidden while we struggle aimlessly without hope in times of sickness, pain and suffering.
When we read the Bible and look at events that corrupted the world, it is not hard to see how people have been deceived even in our generation where knowledge is available and truth should be easy to grasp.
The events of Genesis 4 [Cain and Abel], when murder entered the world and corruption of humankind by the fallen angels in chapter 6, leading to the first destruction of the world with flood in Noah's time. Later in Abraham's time, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19, with a similar action recorded in Judges 19; the destruction of the tribe of Benjamin for the sin of Sodom, all had their origin in the Serpent or Satan invading the Garden.
#What does John 10:10 say?
Jesus teaches that "The thief's purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life."[NLT]
My life was lived going to church and reading the Bible but it wasn't until Jesus rescued me from death, did I come to understand much of what I was reading. I was supernaturally taught. I daily fell into sin and even though I read John 10:10 many times, was clueless to the wisdom Christ taught--we cannot help ourselves no matter how good.
My eyes were opened when the Holy Spirit took me through the experience that was meant to take my life but which led to Jesus speaking directly to me in a vision, quoting John 10:10. My life became transformed and the life of Christ was birthed in me. Like bread that feeds a hungry soul, the power of His word did not just shield me from being destroyed by the Enemy, but promoted me to a new life as God's child--[Testimony in A Chosen Witness, The Watch Woman].
#The Work of the Holy Spirit
Without the help of the Holy Spirit, no man can successfully choose to do what is right. We need the Good Shepherd Who promised, I will be their God and they will be My people, [Jeremiah 24:7, John 10:1-21, Psalm 23]. In Joel 2:28, He said, He will pour out His Spirit upon all flesh. It happened in Acts 2:17.
All people, Jews 'and Gentiles' through the Messiah have been reconciled to God as children. There's no longer separation as all that believe in Jesus are made His chosen children, bought and redeemed by the precious blood that was shed on Calvary. [Romans 8:17]. It is not man's decision who is chosen, but God's. Rejection of the offering is to live a life of hopelessness, as the Sacrifice was for all humanity. All the pagan gods cannot give peace or salvation.
Through His resurrection we receive the Holy Spirit to live holy lives, forgiven and supernaturally protected by God. No need to sacrifice for sin or live in fear of God, for perfect love casts out all fear [1 John 4: 18]. Guilt is the result of unforgiven sin and fear causes torment due to lack of relationship with God the Father.
Throughout history, we see powerful kingdoms that existed, with flourishing economies that built mighty armies to protect their interests. But with time, other kingdoms rose and conquered them and in most cases, wiped them out of existence. Why? Because they failed to listen to God's warnings regarding sin.
The Bible says that it is God who raises up one leader and brings down another. The proud raise their fists up at God ignoring His warnings by choosing to do what is right in their own eyes. They throw out God's commands for their own forgetting there are consequences. What is right and wrong has already been determined by God and we can never improve upon His standard.
#How can people say they know God yet live in fear of Him?
1 John 4:18, "There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment. The one who fears has not been perfected in love." [Berean Study Bible- From Bible Hub].
The Bible repeatedly warned of the intentions and motives of the heart of man, that looks good but ends in destruction.
Proverbs 14:12 says, "There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death."[NLT]
It is the grace of God that pulls people out of the wrong path. Any hope of talking them out sometimes leads to hatred of the messenger, as a blind eye cannot see what lies ahead.
In this New Year, may the LORD help us see the future with the eyes of Christ so as to enjoy His peace whatever the world might throw at us. God provided a Sacrifice that gives life. Invite Him and let Him be your God.
Happy New Year to All.
